Every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day invites us to pause.
To reflect.
To celebrate.
To honour the strength, resilience and quiet determination woven into the everyday lives of women everywhere.
At Sage Dietitians, women’s health is at the heart of everything we do. From supporting hormonal health in PCOS and perimenopause, to navigating IBS, fertility and chronic conditions, we see first-hand how powerful it is when women feel informed, supported and truly heard.
But today isn’t just about health metrics or meal plans. It’s about stories. It’s about respect. It’s about being seen.
A Moment I’ll Always Remember
Before I became a dietitian, I worked as cabin crew. It was a fast-paced, ever changing career - long hours, changing time zones, immense responsibility, and constant movement.
One International Women’s Day, while preparing to depart from Algiers on an early morning flight, something unexpected happened.
As we completed our pre-flight preparations, the ground staff came onboard and handed each of the female crew members a single white rose.
It was simple. Quiet. Thoughtful.
Standing there in uniform, about to welcome passengers, I felt genuinely touched. That white rose symbolised respect - not for a title, not for an achievement, but simply for being a woman contributing, working, leading and showing up.
In such a busy, high-pressure environment, that moment of acknowledgment meant more than I expected. It reminded me how powerful small gestures can be.
And that feeling of being valued stays with me to this day - all these years later.
Women’s Health Is More Than Physical
When we talk about women’s health, we often focus on hormones, nutrients, gut symptoms or blood results. And yes, those matter deeply.
But health is all encompassing, emotional, social, and cultural. It’s about whether you feel supported in your body and confident in your choices.
True wellbeing includes:
Stable energy that carries you through your day
Balanced blood sugars that protect long-term health
Strong bones and a healthy heart
A gut that feels settled and predictable
A relationship with food that feels nourishing, not restrictive
The mental space to care for yourself without guilt
So many women are conditioned to prioritise everyone else first; partners, children, work, community, leaving their own needs at the bottom of the list.
International Women’s Day is a reminder that your health deserves attention too.
Nourishing Ourselves, Inside and Out
Supporting women’s health doesn’t require perfection. It starts with small, sustainable steps:
• Including protein at meals to support muscle and hormonal balance
• Eating regularly to stabilise energy and mood
• Adding fibre for gut and heart health
• Prioritising iron-rich foods, especially during reproductive years
• Moving your body in ways that build strength and joy
• Allowing rest without apology
These aren’t rules, they’re foundations.
And just like that white rose, sometimes the simplest gestures have the greatest impact.
A Celebration of Strength
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate:
The women navigating perimenopause while leading teams
The women managing PCOS while building families
The women living with chronic conditions who show resilience daily
The women rebuilding their relationship with food
The women learning to take up space
Wherever you are in your health journey, you deserve respect. You deserve evidence-based care. You deserve to feel heard.
And you deserve moments, big or small, that remind you of your worth.
From Sage Dietitians, Happy International Women’s Day 🤍
Here’s to strength, nourishment, and women supporting women.
