Seeing a dietitian is more accessible than many people realise. You do not need a referral to book an appointment with a dietitian, and you can choose to attend privately at any time. However, if you have a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for dietitian appointments. This article explains how rebates work, who may be eligible, and how to use them when booking with Sage Dietitians.

Do You Need a Referral to See a Dietitian?
No. You can book a dietitian privately without a referral at any time.
A referral is only required if you are claiming a Medicare rebate through a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).
What Is a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan?
A GPCCMP is a care plan created by your GP if you have a condition that has been present, or is expected to be present, for 6 months or more.
If eligible, this plan allows Medicare rebates for allied health services, including dietitians.
How Many Dietitian Rebates Can You Get?
With a GP referral (GPCCMP), you may be eligible for up to 5 rebated dietitian appointments per calendar year.
Your GP decides how many sessions are allocated to each allied health professional.
How Much Is the Medicare Rebate for a Dietitian in Australia?
With a GP referral (GPCCMP), the rebate is currently $61.80 rebate per appointment in Australia.

Conditions That May Be Eligible for a GP Referral
